I think the main problem behind the Google Glass’ reception was that it just didn’t know who it was for, something the article even mentions being a point of conflict within the team. It wasn’t fashionable or easy to wear enough for the average person, yet not really powerful enough for the specialized users. The rush to put the idea in front of consumers caused it to be (by no fault of its own) wildly over-hyped as the solution to each person’s specific problems, while still really being a prototype.
